FAQ
-
Do I have to use special products?
You should avoid sulfate-containing products post treatment because sulfate can eat away at keratin and compromise your results. We sell the correct products in salon for purchase.
-
Does this treatment work on bleached blonde hair?
It does! If your blonde is very dry and damaged the treatment results may be that 90% of the curl is reduced and the health of the hair will be dramatically improved resulting in 100% straight results achieved in subsequent appointments.
-
Can keratin change hair colour?
Keratin can potentially lighten bleached hair further, or if you have used hair colour at home, this may also lighten. You should not experience more than a subtle change if this does happen at all.
-
Will treatments cause hair loss?
NO! Keratin is GOOD for the hair and puts back into the hair what has been stripped and damaged over time. Hair fall (from the scalp) is not a side effect of the treatment and should be investigated by a health practitioner.
-
Can I still swim after my keratin?
YES! Just not within the first 48 hours after treatment. Tips on swimming is to use a swimming cap or slather on a protective treatment like a hair mask or argan oil and shower as soon as practicable after.
-
Is keratin straightening permanent?
Keratin treatments are semi-permanent, meaning that after 3-6 months, the results start to wash out. Treated hair won't return to its natural state, and the new hair growth will be unaffected, hence the need for upkeep.
-
Is keratin straightening good for hair?
Yes! We are adding back more of the natural substance hair is made from (Keratin). Reduced need for heat styling or hot tools, a smoothed hair shaft/cuticle, and protection from environmental factors like humidity make keratin straightening a good option to improve hair health.
-
Is keratin straightening the same as Japanese straightening?
No. Japanese Hair Straightening can damage the hair if not properly re-bonded. Keratin is actually adding to the condition of your hair (which is already made up of 95% keratin) Keratin straightening eliminates frizz and drastically reduces the hair wave or curl but makes it super easy and quick to get the hair to become pin-straight with minimum effort like a finger blow dry.
-
Can I curl my hair after a keratin treatment?
The keratin bonds to the hair but gradually breaks down over a few months, once the bonds are significantly loosened you can curl your hair with no issues (don’t forget heat protectant!)
-
Can I still colour or bleach my hair?
Hair can be coloured or bleached either 14 days before or 14 days after the treatment.
-
How long does keratin hair straightening last?
Keratin hair straightening results can last anywhere up to 6 months. This is dependent on the type of treatment you have (semi, pin straight, conditioning) and also if you follow aftercare instructions at home.
-
Can I straighten my hair after?
You likely won’t need to! After your treatment you will be able to just blow dry for beautifully sleek hair. If you do need to iron out any kinks, you can use your straightener with heat protectant and on a max of 180 degrees.
